Who's Duty Is It To Manage Asbestos?

  • If you are a landlord, tenant or managing agent of a commercial property built before 2000 by law you must have an Asbestos register in place at all times.
  • If your Commercial property has previously been shown to contain asbestos you must have an Asbestos management plan and risk register which should be updated annually.
  • If you plan to undertake any refurbishment or demolition work in your home or Commercial property, you must have a refurbishment and demolition survey.

This applies to all properties - shops, offices, factories, warehouses, commercial and industrial units (including unoccupied buildings). Failing to comply with current regulations could compromise your insurance cover, lead to a fine of up to £20,000 an even a prison sentence of up to 24 months for the most serious breaches.
