Amber Wood Waste Deemed Non Hazardous

Prior to this change in classification, amber waste wood items had been known as potentially hazardous.

Amber Wood Waste Classification

The Environment Agency (EA) is set to officially classify amber wood waste items as non-hazardous. Prior to this change in classification, amber waste wood items including fence posts and decking from households and some from demolition, had been known as potentially hazardous.

Amber wood waste items are currently subject to Regulatory Position statements RPS249 and RPS 291 which were due to expire at the end of September and are now in the process of being withdrawn altogether.

Next Steps for Amber Wood Waste

With the classification changing, so too should the guidelines on accepted materials at sites that accept amber wood.
