Aldi Superstore Loughborough
Just three months after being granted approval by Charnwood Borough Council’s planning committee, works are finally set to begin on a second Aldi Supermarket in Loughborough.
Residents have been waiting over 18-months for verification on the go-ahead of the Allendale Road scheme, but now the wait is finally over.
A council document regarding the Aldi plan, said: "Overall, having carefully considered the impact of the development and the application submitted, the proposals have been found to be acceptable in principle with no suitable, available or viable alternative sites having been identified in, or on the edge of designated centres.’’
Local business Mick George Ltd who operate a nearby site in Mountsorrell will shortly begin Earthworks for the project, on behalf of J.A Burke Construction Ltd.
The 1.28-hectare site will allocate 1,800 sqm. to the Aldi Supermarket, and the remainder of the location will include a Costa drive-thru and three smaller retail units, as well as 199 car-parking bays.
Not only will the superstore provide over 100 recruitment opportunities, but the development will also offer a new store in a convenient and accessible location, bringing high-quality produce at deeply discounted prices to the whole community.
A spokesperson for Aldi added: “The additional retail units will complement our offering for the local community.”
Michael George, Contracts Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’It is good to see that our decision to geographically expand through investment in sites wider afield is paying dividends. It allows us to be more competitive during any tender process, and display our contracting qualities in more and more regions.’’
George continued: ‘’Leicestershire is thriving with construction activity and we’re pleased as a local business to be associated with the works.’’
