Abbeygate Sixth Form College

Construction of a new £32 million purpose-built sixth form college in Bury St. Edmunds is underway with local contractor Mick George Ltd set to begin enabling works on behalf of Wates Construction Ltd.

Abbeygate Sixth Form College will be based on the upper playing field of King Edward VI School in Bury and will be accessed from Beetons Way.

Plan for the proposed C-shaped building include two four-storey wings, assembly and sports halls, multi-use games area and 245 parking spaces.

Anticipated for opening at the start of the academic year 2020, Abbeygate Sixth Form College will transform post 16 education in West Suffolk and will be a centre of academic excellence providing students with high quality learning, and a breadth of choice

The education facility will provide 1,700 students aged between 16-19 with more than 30 A-Level courses.

Progress is already being made with regards to recruitment with the recent appointment of a Director of Curriculum and a Student Services Manager. David Gartland holds the position of Abbegate Sixth Form College.
